Week 9, Mexico
1/8
Slept in, breakfasted in the hotel, laundried and off to the beach again (know the bus schedule now, so...). Another day of heat, salt water, good sea food, long walk along the shore and a cold Corona to top it of. 2 more of these days ahead.
Came back at 6.30 or so, to find a note from Glynn. She tore of the ligament of her left ankle and has to go home (at least for a few weeks). Doctors put it in plaster cast, so... she stays in the hotel until her flight on thursday. I look after her, and do a little shopping if necessary.
8pm, shopped, ate a little snack, bought sunburn skin treatment (yes, got sunburned), went to my hotelroom and going to update my blog now. Laterz....
Slept long and good.
2/8
Woke up at 7.00. Did the media, breakfasted, got Glyn some breakfast and .... fell asleep again...
So, i took the 12.00 bus to the beach. Some wind there which made it very pleasant, though you still could not be in the sun. 37 °C is just too warm and the water temperature is not refreshing either (28 °C).
Returned around 7.00, showered, ate, got something to eat for Glyn, update blog. Now tv (CNN with Trumps daily blunders), a leftover beer of Ken and an episode of fringe.
3/8
Slept well, same routine as yesterday... im really slowing down, being away from the group and have a wonderfull relaxing time. Espacially wrt the gossip (Glyn told me) that there was a "fight" between some groupmembers on the way to the Copper Canyon. Perhaps more about that later ... perhaps not.
Anyway, last day at the beach... what to say. Lots of dead bullet fish (no wonder with a name like that). And some very brutal birds... does anybody know what kind they are? Pelicans too, no dolphins however. And lots of frigate birds, also dead ones...
My last Corona muy fria (they know me by now over there). Came back, showered, laundry, had diner with Marty, who came back to this hotel for the last night before we leave again. Tomorrow at 8 that is. See you then.
4/8
Woke up at 7, met the rest of the group in the lobby. Nice to see everybody again. All stories (most of them good), lots of laughter, shaking hands, to go short: good to see each other again. 4 days of being alone did me good though.
Then a long, long day of driving. 800 K is a lot of these roads with this truck. Luckily it was cloudy most of the day, so temperature stayed pleasant. We arived at a overnightspot at 9.20, put up our tents (or slept on the truck), a beer and tried to sleep. Lots of noise, since we were staying at a spot, where lots of trucks arrived, left or passed by. Managed to get some sleep though. Lets hope we get to our hotel in Mexico city by today. See you there hopefully. Oh yeah, some first signs of an upcoming diarrhea. .. wish me luck.
5/8
Woke up at 6.20, packed, wrote blog, and left at .... 7 (if all goes well) ... waiting for that now. Laterz...
Long drive again and .... diarrhea. Shit. So, took the medicines and it helped straight away, but side effects: dizziness and stomac cramps. I even sat in the front of the truck (less bumpy). Anyway, we arrived at our camping spot at 8.00 or so. Put up my tent, ate something light (i thought) and went to bed ... untill 3 am... the medicine stopped working and fresh diarrhea it was, for every hour of the night. Believe i know the way to the toilet by now.
Fell asleep at 5 untill 8.30. Stomac is completely empty now.
6/8
Slept in until 8.30. Relaxed breakfast in the sun (our tents are soaking wet from dew). Plan to see the pyramids (yes they're here too) with Luts and Bijan. Laterz... wish me luck with the toilets.
Long walk to the pyramids. Its not maya culture, not aztec culture, but Teotihuacan (google it). Interesting though. We came back at 13.00 ish. I tried some food and it felt well. Toilet visit .... yeah! The solid stuff , if you catch my drift.
Showered and slept for an hour. Then Loretta and her husband (Carlos, he flew in yesterday and will be part of the group for a couple of days) made the best meal ever. 3 courses, including some good wine.
Was i happy that my stomac had turned well.
Anyway, tomorrow we go to Mexico city, by bus, but do a thourough truck clean first. Hopefully a good night of sleep first. See you tomorrow.
No good night of sleep though ... diarrhea came back, and in the middle of the night somebody (S) decide to pump up her airbed ... during an hour!!!
7/8
Rose at 7.15, breakfast (hardly anything to do for cookgroup), then a big truck clean. Everybody worked hard (except S, but what to expect).
Then an Uber to the hostel in Mexico city.
Arrived in the hostel at 13.00 or so. Checked in. Celebrated with Norm and the rest ... beautiful hostel...
Went into town with Norm and Bijan. Ate chinese food (stomac could handle it (so far...)), searched for a new pair of shorts (hard to find though) and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon at our rooms.
At night we (Bijan, Luts and me) went out for a beer and a good chat. Mexico city is a great town. Feel good here.
See you all next week.
