Week 23, Peru
7/11
Rose at 6.00, packed, breakfasted and then the long drive to Lima.
Fist part was a dessert like pampa ...
Then the scary road along the coast ...
Arrived in our (very nice) hostel at 17.30. Unpack and did a little group city walk in town. Nienke has been here before and knew the way. Centre of town is beautiful ...
On the way back i ate a burger. Back at the hostel, i wifi-ed the evening away. In bed now, updating blog. Laterzzzz ...
Slept like a baby....
8/11
Slept in untill 8.00. Breakfast was included, did the media and strolled to the central plaza with Hugo and Russ ...
... to see the change of the guards...
Found an ATM, robbed it, had a pizza slice and a cafe latte at starbucks (yummy).
Published week 22 of my blog...
Went to town again and ran into Norm and Richard, so beer it was.... we found a real bar, where we got silly .... look ...
Back at the hostel, i did the media. The rest went to this luxury bar 10 K away. Didn't feel like it, so spend the rest of the time in the hostels bar and went to sleep early (untill the snoring began, which kept me awake for a couple of hours, which made me catch up with all the facebook mesages i missed over the last few weeks). Fell asleep again round 4.00 h.
9/11
5 months and the road, 3 to go ... (and a few days in Rio)
Woke up late, breakfasted and went in a new direction in this town, to find a huge market (mainly all kind of electronic components... very nice). Forgot to take pictures, sorry.
A big latte at starbucks, and an update of this blog was next.
Waiting for 7.00 when we go to a reastaurant, where Bijan will celebrate that ... he became a grandfather .... hurray! Laterz...
Funny detail: Up here there is a softdrink, called "Inca Kola". It tastes a bit like the old "Excota" (a softdrink from my youth).
I thought it to be a local drink, since its Inca (how peruvian can it be) and it's spelled Kola (and not Cola)...
... the back side of the bottle revealed however ... that it's just another Coca Cola Company product... they realy control the market of softdrinks worldwide ...
Anyway, we are going to celebrate Bijan's grandfathership now.
And fun it was: great food, "some" alcoholic drinks, great laughter. On the way back we became really silly. Danced in a local bar, sipped a last beer at the football bar, anyway.. a look at the pictures says enough i think...
Oh yeah, Richard fell asleep in the last bar ...
10/11
Rose at 5.20 (a bit hungover-ish), drove to the boat trip. Lovely. A million birds (literally!), sealions, dolphins, take a look for yourself ...
Then on to Huarincho. Nice little touristic town, where we will stay for just one night.
Rest of the group went for a buggy drive over the sand dunes and some sand surfing. I didn't feel like it, so i facebooked the time away.
About to get some food now. Laterz...
Nice affordable food, with Margarita, Dario and Bijan in a restaurant nearby.
Shower, shave, trying not to fall asleep now, because at 10 the football match Peru - New Zealand starts. Laterz...
Err... i did fell asleep. No football for me ... oh well, it ended up in a lousy 0-0 anyway.
11/11
Rose at 8.00, breakfasted, packed, changed into shorts and flipflops.
Did the shopping for 2 cookgroups (and of course we bought way too much.. i mean really waaayyy to much). On top of that, while packing the food, a thief stole a bag with Margarita's stuff. It really happened in a split second... still, bugger!
Ok, on the way to Nazca now... see you there.
Short drive. On the way we stopped to see an image of the nazca lines from a high tower...
Then onwards to the combined hotel/camp site, where we arrived round 16.00.
Unpacked, setup tent, and took a dive in the very cold pool. Refreshing though.
Meeting at 6 about the (not) locking of the truck. The packing group is supposed to be the third key keeper... lets see how that goes.
After dinner we went to town for a documentary about the nazca lines. Nice and interesting...
Taxi back to the campsite, last beer and a great sleep.
12/11
Rose at 7.00 with the intention to help Nienke with breakfast, but most of it had been done, so...
Chatted the morning away with Mariya and other friends. Rest has gone for a flight over the nazca lines again, but i have seen enough of it. Saves 100 US $ as well. We're dutch after all aren't we?
Updating blog now and about to dive in the pool again. Laterz...
Did not do anything for the rest of the afternoon, except chatting, playing a little guitar, a swim, and a beer with Hugo.
Wa are having bbq near the pool. Looks and smells good. Big appetite since i skipped lunch.
BBQ was very good, sipped a last one and went to bed at 9.00. Too tired (from what?) for the (last) episode of Humans.
13/11
Rose at 6.00. Packed breakfasted, update blog and did the news, waiting for the rest of the packgroup to do the packing now. Laterz...
Long, dry drive through the desert like pampas of Peru.
Visited the mumies of ... forgot the name...*
... then onwards to this little beachtown, where we "wild"-camped (restaurant nearby, toilets, you name it.. so much for wild camping)... but we passed a very nice place where you could buy the very best olives, tapanades, and so on. I love olives, so it was paradise for me. I stuffed myself...
Arrived at this wild (hum) camping beach at 13.30 or so. Beautiful place...
Setup camp, ate a bite (read: i ate some more olives), relaxed. Waiting for the 2nd bbq in a row now... Laterz.
PS: in the shade it's too cold, in the sun too warm... now that's what i call a luxury problem in november!
We met some really nice people from Arequipa. 2 lawyers and an mechanical engineer. They were out for the weekend and had drunk quit a bit of rum. We joined them and our poor spanish and their poor english created lots of fun. Here's a picture ...
After that we had a beautiful bbq (again, yes).
Went to my tent early, to watch the last episode of Humans. Slept good on the beachsand...
See you all next week ...
