Week 6, Idaho, Utah (US)

11/7

Rose at 6.00. Slept like a log (soft gras). Breakfast, packed. On the way to Salt lake city for 2 nights. See u there.

Arrived at 12-ish, put up the tent and spend the rest of the afternoon in the pool. Its 35 degrees up here. Pfff....
Nice camping place though. Tomorow i will check out SLC downtown.  Laterz...

Had a nice mexican meal with Didi (for 12 bucks). Rest went out to a Brazilian steakhouse (and payed over 40 bucks (hihihi)). 9.45, bedtime.

12/7

Slept great again (despite the high temperatures (that may sound strange to the dutch, since we always associate Salt lake with speedskating ... well, it's a <beep>ing 36 degrees up here)).
Left for SLC downtown at 8 with Bijan, Didi and Norman. Nice place to visit, that is to say if you go to the mormon temple area. Man, our mormon brothers and sisters know how to maintain their churches, conference rooms, tabernacles , auditoria and so on... Take a look...

At 12 there also was an organ recital.  Moussorgsky's Pictures at an exhibition was played (2 pieces). That happens to be one of my favorite composers, so... lucky me. It was a bit of an disappointment though. The organ sounded great, but the player sucked. Mannes Hofsink is 10 times better.
Ate a bite and took the 1.30 train back to the campground. To relax for the rest of the afternoon i guess.  Updating blog now. Pool looks cooling... so, if you need me... i'll be there. Laterz... and Norman just bought me a beer... life's good!

Rest of the afternoon was relaxing, recharging phones and tablets, swim, sip a beer, well you know the drill by now i guess.

13/7

Rose at 6.20, slept good. Breakfast , packed and went for a free coffee to the campstore. Met this ultra right wing american there who said that he likes "our" Geert Wilders. I explained to him the lots of dutch do, but the sane ones don't. He left.
Im afraid to say that Geert Wilders is our best known politician. So far for good advertisement for the Netherlands.

Ok, on the way to Arches NP. Lets see what's there.

Long drive, but stunning scenery again...

Found a very rocky campground, but the environment was great again.
A big dip however was my confrontation with one of the fellow travelers . She is a loud mouth, that bossed me around, what really annoyed me. I will not go into more details, but i will ignore her for the rest if the trip. Slept bad, full of unprocessed anger and frustraton.

14/7

Rose early despite the sleepless hours. Packed, and on the way to Dead Horse (yes, again) viewpoint. Did a 6 K hike there. Take a look...

Now on the way to Canyonlands NP...
More stops, stunning views...

Found a nice campground, at the Colorado river, early in the afternoon (16.00 or so). We all took a swim and floated along with the slow current. Really great.
Dinner, chats and an early episode of fringe. I could barely keep my eyes open. Slept like a log.

15/7

Rose at 6.30, breakfasted. We are going to see the "island in the sky" in arches NP. Laterz..
On the road through Arches NP: Lots of stops for canyon foto's ...

One of the many arches

One of the many balanced rocks. They seem unstable, but have been like this for ages already.

My good friend Bijan from Iran/Australia

13.00 lunch and cookgroup shopping. Temperature rose to 39 °C.
Sweating on our way to a campground now. Laterz...

The campground had flies and was dusty. Had a nice time there though (guitar, campfire). I play music here, mainly with Kerry. She sings realy good and it's fun to make music with her. Bijan made a video. We had a squirrel as an audience. It's hilarious, take a look at my FB timeline.

E 7-9, as Alex recognized. The wind cries Mary by Hendrix (Jimi, not Heidi).

Then chatted, had a beer and slept like a log.

16/7

Rose at 6.20. Breakfast, packed. On the way to Bryce Canyon now. Laterz...

Lots of scenery again.... and a very heavy hike. We were concerned about the old guys, but (as usual) they turned out fine. They're great blokes. I hope to have their healt and spirit, when (and if) i reach their age.

We are trying to spell UTAH ... hmmm, not too succesfull

Evening: cookgroup, so hard work, but a successful nasi goreng with peanut sauce. Early night, slept like a log.

17/7

Zaine and Norm had already put up kitchen, so not much to do for us. Thanks guys.
Lauretta had bought some nice italian ham and cheese,  so all was good.

On our way to the south entrance of Bryce Canyon... see you there.

Did not make it in one day. Extra night at campground, close to Bryce Canyon. Amazing scenery again though.

<Add Kerry's pictures here>

Had some relaing hours at campsite. Managed to do some laundry. Heavy rains after 9.00 pm. Nice when you're in a dry tent.

We also found Russ back. He and his brother Bob had folowed us in his pickup, but had lost track.

Ok, that's it for this week. See you next week again. Bye for now.
