Week 13, Guatemala, El Salvador
29/8
Rose at 7, to find this campground, where we had arrived yesterday in the dark...
In the background you can see 3 vulcanos.
Breakfasted (only Karim had stayed to do his job, assisted by Leanne and Jono). Good breakfast though!
At 9.30 Bijan, Luts, Richard and I went to town for shopping (we have cookgroup tonight) and a coffee...
Came back at 11.15. Updating blog now.
Went to town again in the afternoon for lunch and a walk. Its a very nice town... look..
Came back at 16.00, did the media, and slowly started cookgroup. We made a minced meat kebab, which was ok.
After dinner we went to town (almost all of us, which has not happened before) to sip a beer or two.
Laura stole my phone and made silly pictures of herself ...
10 (ish) we caled it a day and went home. Rest of the group went to other places (no details!!!).
Slept good, cool nights are so nice (bit wet though).
30/8
Rose at 6.40 to make breakfast (scrambled eggs and ham), dried my sleeping gear, read the news, updated blog.
About to go to the harbour, to drink a coffee and to find a nice boat trip. Laterz...
No boat trip (not a cheap one anyway), but a nice restaurant, with a big balcony terras and a lakeview and a huge milkshake. And good wifi. Well spend morning.
Came back at the truck round 13.00. Been tired all day long. Don't know why... still a little bit feverish too ... hmm, take care Jan.
Used the afternoon to publish week 12 of my blog and made reservations for a hostel in Rio. Necessary, because during carnival it will be hard to get a room. Managed to do so though.
Helped Lutz cook his lentilsoup... and ate it round 6.30. Temperature has gone down quit a bit, so winterfood was very nice.
Showered, shaved, and washed during the evening. Going to my tent soon to watch fringe and have a dry sleep. We are waiting for thunderstorms since this afternoon aleady, but they move along all the time. There will be rain though.
Ok, see you tomorrow.

Rose at 7.15 or so. Everybody had gone to the market. Not me. A whole morning to myself. Yeee!
Dried my sleeping gear and tent, had a coffee with Jono, checked the media and went for a huge milkshake again... todays view:
Back at the truck we had some of yesterdays lentilsoup (by Lutz). Now updating blog and waiting for the group to return... laterz.
Group came back around 12.30. We packed and on our way to Antigua.
Arrived there around 17.00. Parked the truck at an RV spot and took a taxi to this beautiful hostel, where we are now.
Installed my stuff on a dorm bed, and Loretta, Bijan, Luts, Richard and i went to restaurant "Porque no?" for a nice diner.
Then through the pooring rain to the Londener pub, where Will had a goodbye party and Marty his birthday. Sipped some beers and had a good conversation.
After 12 we went next doors to a nightclub/disco, where the beer consumption continued. It was nice, but not spectacular. We did draw some attention though, what resulted in free beers (as if we hadn't had enough already).
1.00 am the club closed and we had to walk back to the hostel. I thought i knew the way so i took off, thinking that the rest would catch up with me... what could possibly go wrong... ? Well, the following...
After 5 minutes i looked around where the rest was and... nobody. And i did not recognize the neighboorhod either. I thought the name of our hostel was Hostel Antigua, so i walked up to there, but it was the wrong hostel. The nightguard up there let me in though, called the other hostel (Antigua Hostel) to inform if our group was there. It wasn't!
So, i was lost and could not remember the name of our hostel.

I wrote a message to Laura, but she was asleep already. Luckily i could crash on the couch in the other hostel, since it was too dangerous to roam the streets at 2.00 am.
I slept a few hours there and early in the morning Laura send me the address of our hostel (named Hostel Antigueno). I walked to there and could do my breakfast immediately on arrival. Lot to explain of course, and Russ teased me, obviously. Was glad to be back though..
1/9
I had still energy enough to go to the city view, 300 steps up at the end of our street. The view was beautiful... look ...
Oh, and we also met... miss Guatemala 2017. Of course pictures with her... look ...
Back at the hostel the hangover struck, so... i slept a few hours and now im updating my blog here.
See you later...
In the evening we went for dinner with Luts, Norm, Lauretta and Bijan. Straight back to the hostel and a good night sleep.
2/9
Rose at 6.00, showered, nice breakfst from the hostel (hash brown potatoes ... yummie) and a taxi to the RV parking.
On the road at 8.00. On the way we saw a smoking vulcano. Exciting for us, but apperently not for the locals, since nobody took any notice.
Crosed the border into El Salvador at 12.30 or so. Took us hours. Custom wanted to check a lot of our luguage, which makes sense, coz some of us have so incredibly much stuff under, on, near and in their seats... they really are tourists, not travellers at all. And they get lost al the time.. oh wait... no, that was me... ðŸ˜
Anyway, the coastal road to La Libertad was great. Lovely views, look...
Arrived at the camping spot at 18.00. Had a hard time parking in the truck, which upset Jono quit a bit, but we got there. Had a beer, put up my tent and then... all of us went for a swim... man that felt good.
Had dinner afterwards, wifi-ed a little and slept like a log.
3/9
Slept in till 7.00. Kerry made a huge effort frying 2 eggs for me. She's still exhausted 😄.
Updating blog now... laterz.
Went to the center of town (La Libertad puerto) to see the fishmarket at the pier at the beach. Very nice. Look for yourself ...
Drank the best softdrink ever (fresh pine apple juice on ice (25 cents)), and ate beautiful fish dish.
Went back to the camping spot (busticket, also 25 cents) and then to the dark sand beach near our camping. Nice waves, but nothing too special. Did a swim with Richard, sipped a beer there and did another swim in the pool of the campground.
Updating blog now, while waitiing for dinner.... laterz.
Dinner was very nice. They even had put torches around a circle of chairs. Kerry and i made music, which we hadn't done for weeks. Finally! We must do that more often.
Sipped a beer at the pool, had a nice convrsation with Jono, Kerry, the doctor (Richard) and Karim.
Went to bed at 10.30 or so. Could not sleep very well. Thunderstroms and rain from midnight and onwards.
4/9
Happy birthday dad in heaven!
Woke up at 7.45 or so... nice to sleep in every now and then. We will leave this campground at 1 pm, since we only have to drive for an hour and can't check in in our San Salvador hotel before 2 pm (we will be too late again i predict you...).
Anyway, sitting at the pool here now with Luts and Bijan, still have to pack, but there's no hurries.
At 13.00, after a refreshing swim, we left for San Salvador, capital of El S. Short trip, so we arrived at 14.00 or so with a big, big bang. One of the tires blew out when we parked the truck, look...
The hostel is great. I even have a room with private bathroom and aircon, to be shared with Laura. Man, what a luxury. Owe you Laura!
Went for a Mac Donalds as lunch and relaxed the rest of the afternoon.
Went to a "beer station" where 100 kinds of beer were sold. All overpriced, so i took one and went back to the hostel, where we chatted over some more drinks. Bijan had a nice wine. Slept like a log, in luxury!
See you all next week ...
