Week 18, Caribbean Sea, Columbia
3/10
Rose at 7.00 and dove in the sea for another best shower ever. Relaxed, coffee, breakfast and off the the next island.
Only an hour sailing or so.
On arrival there, we took our snorkeling equipment and man ... what an experience. A zillion fish, coral, colors, you wouldn't believe it. I loved it.
Back to the boat at 2.00, beautiful lunch and back to the island for more snorkeling. Couldn't get enough of it.
At 18.00 we went for a last island, a last snorkel, and we're about to cross the Caribbean sea now to Cartagena. Sea will be rough, so i wonder how we will get through the night. Laterz...
Slept outside. Much better.
4/10
Just woke up (6.15). Waves are a bit bigger, but all seems well so far. But then we set sail for the open Caribbean sea. Lots of us felt sick, and i didn't feel that fantastic either. When i was on the deck, staring at the horizon it was a lot better though. Also when i closed my eyes, so... i closed my eyes on the deck and spend the afternoon like that.
Tote (the captain) caught 2 tunas...
So we sailed to Cartagena during the night in a very bumpy boat. Slept reasonably well though.
5/10
Rose at 6.30. Feeling good, despite the (still) rough sea.
Arrived at the harbour of Cartagena at 10.00 am.
Bit of a strugle was the decision to be made to do another island or not. The majority decided to go straight for Cartagena, so that it was.
At the boat now for our last lunch. Some of us have gone of already, either to have a shower and/or to go to the hostel.
Im updating the blog here in the boat. Don't want to miss that freshly caught tuna.
Oh yeah, Richard was hit by a flying fish in his face.. seriously! Look...
The tuna was great, the trip to the main land and the hostel too. Relaxed , napped, showered , strolled around town (it's beautiful) ...
Met a new fellow traveler: Pawel, from Belgium. Nice bloke, huge guy (basketballer). Saw the footbal match Columbia-Paraguay with him in a bar.
2-1 loss for Columbia unfortunately.
Back in the hostel now. Already run out of money, since i payed all beds. Oh, well.... Laterz...
6/10
Slept like a baby and rose at 8.30 or so. Little, simple breakfast in this hostel. Took my laundry to the laundrette, and bought Leanne and Annette coffee on the way back.
Back at the hostel i saw Bijan again. So good to see him again. We chatted of course and he took me for a small personal tour through the old city (he has been here already for a couple of days). Had lunch there as well. It is such a colorful city ... take a look...
Round 4.30 we did the city walk. Again a good idea of (the history of) this town...
Finished at 7.30, found Bijan at the square, downed a few beers with him in a local bar, then back to the square where we found the others too. Good atmosphere, nice performances from locals...
Went back to the hostel at 11.00 or so. Fringe episode and a good night sleep followed.
7/10
Slept good again, did the media, collected my laundry (everything clean ... yeeee!), and packed for a lovely day at the beach. My face looks like a lobster again...
17.00 back at the square near our hostel for a group meeting (that i had forgotten, but i was there in time by accident). Showered, ATM-ed, and ... could not find anybody anymore. Ok, to the old town it was, where i found them in the hard rock cafe. One glance at the pricelist made me decide to leave immediately again. Round the corner i had some me-time on a nice terrace with a reasonably priced beer.
20.15 back at the hostel, chat with Bijan, last beer, update blog, and an early night. Leaving this town tomorrow unfortunately. Love it here!
8/10
Rose at 6.40, packed, chatted, and with local transport to the next Columbian town (Taganga).
A full bus it was, since we have a number of new passengers, who carey all their luguage with them of course (and of course everybody else takes to much luguage as well, but that has been said enough now).
Arrived at 13.00 or so. Nice hostel ....
Unpacked, checked out town, ate a bite (salami sandwich for 20 cents), came back and off to the beach it was.
It's nice to mix with the locals. It was a sunday afternoon, so you get an idea how they spend their free time. My face is like a lobster again, but had a nice day.
Back at the hostel, showered, got 2 slices of piza from Luts, which will get me through the night, and finally managed to publish week 17 of my blog. Week 18 is almost over already, so....
9/10
4 months on the road; 4 to go!
Woke up early, since a couple of dorm mates left early for a trip to the national park.
Did the media, sipped a cup of coffee, short chat with fellow travelers, showered and off to the other beach, that seems to be near to here. Let's see what it is... Laterz...
Dangerous road, to go to the other beach. If you trip, you fall to your death. Nevertheless, made it to there. Nice beach, but boring! Not much to do, so i left after an hour and went to the public beach, where i spend the rest of the day.
Met Gordo there. And he is fat indeed. (Gordo means fat in spanish.) He owns a little bar up there, and i leave my stuff there, when i go for a swim. Nice bloke....
The sunset there is beautiful btw, look ...
Had a nice steak in a local restaurant there. All in all a perfect day. But there was a bonus...
On the way back to the hostel i heard a saxophone player in a little bar close to us. He was very good, so i listened for a while.
Decided to pick up Bijan, for a beer and introduce him jnto the world of jazz. We had a great time there. Good talks, beautiful music, nice pizza. Later other travalers came there too. The end of a perfect day. Also became friends with the saxophone player. His name is Ed...
