Week 22, Ecuador, Peru
31/10
Rose at 6.00, packed, breakfasted and on the road for a long drive to this little, but very touristic coastal town, called Mancora.
Beautiful drive through the Andes.
Crossed the border into Peru at 13.30 or so, without any problems.
Along the coast to Mancora it was. Last 2 hours were really rough and Jono seemed to be in a hurry. Ouch! (sitting in the back of the truck is a hard job then.)
Arrived in this beautiful hostel at 6.00. Share rooms with Pauwel and Dario.
Unpacked, found an ATM, ate a bite, walked around, found out it's haloween here ...
met Bijan, short walk along the beach, and now siping a beer on the balcony of our room. Wish i had more energy to go out, but im so tired... Beach tomorrow!
Now zleepzzzzz....
PS: i can predict that i will hate it that we are only 1 day here!
1/11
Rose at 7.something. Breakfasted with Dario, got my sleeping bag from the truck and dried it. Then a lovely day at the beach. Long walks (found 2 dead sealions), a cold beer, nice sea food (thanks Linda for ordering too much), beautiful, but cold water, huge waves, to go short: a lovely day, but i already said that. My bag was washed away in a big wave, so i was lucky not to have my phone with me. On the down side: no pictures ...😯.
Walked back with Bijan round 17.00. Bought some snacks for the long drive of tomorrow and showered.
Managed to publish week 21 of my blog.
Had a great dinner with Bijan, Norm and Richard, where we met this nice policeman as well. Nice talking to him...
At 9.00 we sipped a last one on the big terrace. Slept like a baby.
2/11
Rose at 5.00. Packed, and on the way to Huanchaco now. Breakfast at 9.00 (supposed to be done in 30 minutes, but it took more than an hour (we're so demanding, aren't we?)).
Updating blog now... Laterz...
The drive was long. Very long, but we managed. The pampas are desolated, but have their own charm ...
Had lunch around 2.30. Just some rolls and cheese, bought on the market and eaten in the parc.
Arived here in Huanchaco at 9.00 pm. Unpacked, put up tents. Nienke got some fries, salad and chicken, drank 1 beer and a solid night of sleep to finish the day.
3/11
Rose at 6.45, to set up breakfast as i had promised Bijan.
Took 2 hours before everybody was fed. Did the news on the wifi up here and .... fell asleep in my tent again ... 😕
Ok, off to town and beach and find out what this little village has to offer... Laterz...
Wel, this town is trying to turn into a touristic resort rapidly. Construction work everywhere and ... the bach was crappy. Dead sea lion again... what's happening with these animals?
Ate fried fish with very spicey herbs in a local restaurant. Lovely though.
At 16.00 decided to (try to) run for a couple of Km's. Went well. Just for 20 minutes. Hadn't run for 5 months and the muscle in my calf ... took it all right, so... let's consider that healed.
Showered, read the news, ate, siped a beer and off for an early night, with 1 (or 2) episode (s) of humans. Laterz...
Dinner was nice, watched an episode of Humans , slept like a baby.
4/11
Rose at6.30, packed, breakfasted, and at 8.00 we were on the road to Huaraz. From sea level, through the dusty pampas...
... into the Andes again. Had lunch in one of the small, more or less isolated villages. Very, very friendly people. We had lunch here ...
... and here's some pictures of the green environment with lovely little brookes ...
... then climbed (well, drove actually) on to 4200 meters ...
Arrived in Huaraz at 18.00, installed ourselves in a hostel, ate extremely cheap chinese food, and ... went to bed. So very tired .... is it the altitude? Been at this altitude before, but it never wore me out as this time... anyway , sleepzzzz...
PS: can anybody explain why the temperatures at sea level in Peru, just below the equator are just 19 degrees celcius? Is it the influence of the pacific ocean? I expected a 30 degrees celcius at least...
5/11
Rose at 8.00. Had a coffee, small meeting next doors (about what to do up here (hiking, climbing, etc)), rearranged my luguage (caried too much on me (though the least of all of us, but still too much)).
At 10.30 to the town. Nice but nothing too impresive.
Made reservations for indian food tonight.
Back to the hostel. Moved into my new room, chatted with Mariya. Gonna take a look if my laundry is ready ... Laterz...
It wasn't, so another stroll through town, sipped a beer with Russ and Juanita (who gave me her matras (mine started leaking; thanks a lot Juanita, highly appreciated)) on the roof terrace of our hostel...
At 6.30 we left to go eat in an Indian restaurant. Man, that was good food. Loved it!
Now back at the hostel. Early rise tomorrow, coz we're going to walk up to 5 K, to see lagune 69 (in the early days all lakes had numbers; this one still has). Sleepzzz..
6/11
Rose at 4.45. Packed for the day and at 5.30 we took the bus to lake 69. First a desayuno at 7.00 at the foot of the mountain we had to climb ...
... than onwards and started to walk at 9.00.
The views were great ...
... but it was sooo tiring. Only 6 of us made it to the lake (yes, i was one of them).
It must be one of the highest lakes in the world i guess (yes, i know lake Titikaka is higher).
Back at the bus: exhausted. Long drive back and now updating my blog over a beer on the roof terrace of our hostel. Wil try to publish week 22 tomorrow, but can't promise. We"ll be on our way to Lima (yes, i know it's the capital of Peru). Another long drive to go.
Planning for the rest of the day: food, shower, sleep. Laterz...
Ok, food was: pollo, papatas, ensalade y una cerveza grande, and ... the Flintstones in hd on a big screen in spanish ... 😁
Shower included a shave and a shot of Norms rum,
Sleep folows now....
See you next week!
