Week 28, Chile
12/12
Rose at 6.15, packed, breakfasted and on the road for a long, long drive again....
Lunch on the truck...
Short photo moment at the 5 fingers statue ...
And onwards to the coast. Found a nice spot to wildcamp.
Had a nice pasta dinner there. Slept like a log.
13/12
6.10 rose, packed and breakfasted. Short drive to this place called Pan de Azucar (sugar bread), on the coast. We wanted to stay for 2 nights, but there is so little to do, that we leave again tomorrow. Did a truck clean (in a dusty environment, so....) ... gonna have a nice swim in the sea though, bit first a sudoku ... Laterz...
Walked up and down the beach. Completely desolate, loved it.
In the "Harbor" i met this guy Carlos. Local fisherman. Nice guy. I suggested him to try to sell his fish at todays cookgroup. And so he did.
Later he innvited me in his house for a beer. He also showed me that they use solar energy for all their devices. Quite modern huh?
At the end of the afternoon, Russ and i climbed a nearby rock, to see pinguins. Unfortunately, none to be seen, but a very nice view it was. Forgot my phone however, sorry.
Hugo and Norm had made a very nice beef stew for dinner.
Chatted the evening away with Bijan. Early night, slept well.
14/12
Rose at 5.45, toiletted, lost my glasses inside a construction wall (really!). Could get them back with a stick with a hook and Jono's help. Thx dude!! What a start of the day.
Anyway, packed, breakfasted, packed the truck and at 7.00 we were on our way to Santiago. We will not reach it today, so probably wildcamp tonight. Laterz...
Long drive, but at 17.00 we reached Casantras (or something like that) and did some shopping there. Then on to the nearby camping place at the beach of the pacific ocean. Lovely!
Had fresh fish for dinner, chatted the evening away, wifi-ed in the beach restaurant and an episode of Torchwood completed the day.
15/12
Rose at 7.45, breakfasted and .... it's shitty weather. Cloudy and a storm may come up... grrrr, i was hoping for a lovely day at the beach. Well, im going for a long walk anyway and a good coffee at the restaurant and try to (finally) publish week 27 of my blog. Here's a picture of our campsite.
Laterz...
Walked on a desolate beach. Lovely! Windy and rough!
Found a dead bull sealion ...
At the end of the beach therewas the little village where fresh caught fish was prepared for sale. The remains were fed to the Pelicans and Sealions. The bulls are huge and pretty scary ... look ...
Had a great cafe con leche at a local restaurant!
Went back to the campsite, recharged tablet and phone, slept. Now updating blog and publishing week 27 at the beach restaurant. Laterz....
Had a nice vegetarian dinner at ... late. But also a very good and funny conversation with the part of the group that was nice, social and relaxed...
16/12
Rose at 6.30. Packed, breakfasted, packed the truck and on the way to Santiago. Arrived there around 16.00, checked in and off i was to the plaza de armas. The cold beer tasted good.
Strolled around, which was quit a trip through memory lane (i was here in 2002 too). Santiago is beautiful...
Back at the hostel round 19.00. Dinner with Norm, Richard, Pauwel and Russ...
Went back at 20.30, found an ATM, bought a bottle of wine and updating blog now in the garden of the hostel. Laterz...
Slept beautifully untill 9.00 the next morning!
17/12
Rose at 9.00 (!), breakfasted in the hostels kitchen, and at 10 we went for a city walk...
Lost the group after an hour, walked back to the hostel (slowly), toiletted, and strolled the rest of the day in this fantastic city.
Also went down to the area, where i stayed 15 years ago. Trip down memory lane again. So nice.
Had a huge ice cream as dinner, drank wine with Bijan in the hostels garden, than a last visit at the plaza. So cosy!
Slept like a baby again.
18/12
Rose at 8.00, breakfast, laundry to the lavenderia, showered, update blog now.
Off the starbucks for a coffee...
PS: I think a have caught the cold that so many of the group already have too now... snirrrfff...
Starbucks was too full, so coffee elsewhere. Long walks again, mainly around the osark and my "old" neighborhood.
Also saw a circular rainbow around the sun. Never seen one before ... have you?
Did some shopping for the coming days as well.
Slept for an hour ... now a glass of wine in the hostels garden.
Went out for some food and a last drink at the plaza... good quality time for myself.
Then met these two Israeli guys. Played guitar with them. Bijan had a good talk with them as well. Funny... Iran and Israel getting along pretty well. Wish the world was like that.
Updating blog now. Getting some sleep and a last episode of Torchwood. Rise early tomorrow. We leave at 6.00.
Publish week 28 now...
Till next week...
