Week 29, Chile, Argentina
19/12
Rose at 4.45. Way to early, but everybody started packing already, so... that woke me up.
A 800 K drive to Pucon was ahead.
Packed the truck (my God what a lot of stuff these tourists have). Had my lunch on the truck.
Coffee at 8.30 at a gas station and on we went.
At 3.00 (ish) Jono needed a powernap, so we found this nice waterfall and spend some time there....
On we went and at 8.30 we arrived at our camp spot in Pucon .... look....
Cookgroup made diner, a sip of wine and at 11, i did the last episode of seasion 1 of Torchwood. Slept like a log!
20/12
Woke up at 8, breakfasted, showered, about to hit town now with Richard (plan to hire a bike, but first coffee...)...
Well, we did drink coffee, we did hire a bike, we started a nice bike ride ....
... but the roads were awfull again. So i returned. And then it started to rain .... like a lot. An awfull lot. Untill 5 pm or so.
I biked back to town, bought a lunch at the supermercado, had a beer at a local pub and went back to the campsite.... where i found most of my stuff soaking wet in my tent... grrr.. Slept for an hour and when i woke up the sun was back. Just enough time to have everything dried.
Sipped some wine, had dinner (Lauretta's cookgroup, so .. yummy) and a nice campfire and some music completed the day. Slept like a baby.
21/12
Woke up at 8.00, breakfasted , cold showered, wifi at the campsites front lawn, and a long day of stroling through town. First at the playa...
then at the plaza ...
Lots of german streetnames und apfelstrudel und deutsches bier.... how come? ....
then walked up to the cemetary for the bestview on the vulcano ...
and then i found a nice bar, where they played prog rock music (and served a nice local beer).
Now back at the campsite, waiting for the water to return to have a hot shower. Laterz...
PS: it's the longest day on the southern hemisphere (and the shortest on the northern).
Water never came back, so.... had dinner, glass of wine and an early night...
22/12
Rose at 5.40. Packed, breakfasted, packed the truck (as good as that gets: way too much luguage) and on the way to the border. Crossed it around 9.00. Only took an hour or so.
Patagonia is cold and windy. Luckily the sky cleared, so no rain at the moment. Hope it stays that way... tent is not waterproof anymore (it's 20 years old).
Now having lunch in the Argentinian part of Patagonia.
Updating blog on the truck. Laterz...
Travelled through the lake district of Patagonia to Bariloche ....
Shopped in the supermercado near the campsite (which is 15 K from town ... stupid!).
Now for the last bit to the campsite.... see you there...
Setup camp, had a nice meal, made a nice fire, drank a nice glass of wine and slept like an idiot (that's very good).
23/12
Rose at 8.00, breakfasted. A woman came over to offer all kind of trips we could do, but... touristic prices. No way!
At 9.30 Hugo and I bought our xmas presents and at 10.15 we went to town by bus. First thing we did is buy a proper buscard (need it everywhere in Argentina), then a stroll through town, with some nice lake views.
Town is called Barilouche. Hugo found a new favourite shop up there...
Had a beer on a nice sunny terrace (later accompanied by Glyn and Alli), went to the playa, then back to the campsite.
Ran for 4 KM's (since a long time), showered, shopped at the nearby supermercado.
Now updating blog. Laterz....
Dinner was nice (German lentils soup), nice conversations and at 9.00 Russ, Bijan, Dario and I decided to visit a local bar to have a last beer. And a nice IPA it was. Too bad that everybody then starts staring at their phones, but hey... it's 2017... (almost 18). Walked back at 10.30 or so, episode of Torchwood and a good night of (warm!) sleep.
24/12
Rose at 8.20, showered and breakfasted with the sweet sounds of people argueing in the background... sigh... never mind.
Now updating blog in the cold winds of Patagonia. Laterz...
Went to the little supermarket nearby to do the last xmas shoppings, tried an ATM, but they had run out of money...
At 10.30 Hugo and i went to do two big hikings. First a 6K walk to the best viewpoint of Patagonia (we were told) <forgot the name>. And it was stunning ... look ...
Then to the LLao LLao viewpoint... not miserable either ...
Altogether about 16 K walking (and 2 times a steep kilometer up and down). Pretty tired now, but... still updating blog in the warmth of the meeting room of the hostel, that is part of our campsite.
Had a nice chat with Laura, Norm and Kerry had made a nide curry, chat with Russ, Hugo and another camper from Buenos Aeros.
Tried to go to sleep around 10.00, but then our neighbours (an Oasis overlanding group) started to party. I have not heard one sentence without the word f#ck in it. And shouting seems to be their normal way of communication.
My God ... being stupid is one thing, but showing it off is pathetic!
Anyway, fell asleep round 3.00 AM. Thanks guys!
25/12
Rose at 8.00. Still annoyed about the anti social Brits.
Breakfast, wifi-ed, cup of tea. Checked the ATM, but it still hadn't been refilled, so borrowed some money from Richard... updating blog now. Its sunny, but it drizzles too. Laterz...
Xmas dinner was very nice. We gave eachother presents (which mainly means we exchanged bottles of wine) and made music.
We chatted the evening away and at 9.30 i went to my tent for an episode of Torchwood.
10.30 ... i wanted to go to sleep when.... the anti socials of the Oasis group started to play loud music again and communicated in their normal way which is shouting. It went on till after 2.00AM. So, the second night without enough sleep. I should have set fire to their truck. What an idiots!
See you all next week. In a better mood i hope.
