Week 31, Argentina, Chile, Argentina

02/01

Rose at 8.00. Had breakfast in the hostel (didn't know there was one). Publishing week 30 now...

Went to yesterdays coffee place for ehh ... coffee, right? Did the media there (hostels wifi was down again). Visited a local viewpoint...

Then a long stroll in town. Here's some pictures of the science park...

Back to the hostel to eat something and another walk to lake Argentina.
A beer at 17.00, a shower in the hostel, food now. It was a quiet and relaxed day. Laterz...

Spend the rest of the evening wifi-ing. Episode of Torchwood and a solid sleep (where i seemed to haved snored like an idiot).

03/01

Rose at 6.15, showered, packed, packed the truck and on our way to Torres del Paine national park .... or so we thought...

First we had to cross the border into Chile again. That went smooth .... dog sniffing through our stuff...

Onwards to Puerto Natales for shopping for 3 days of camping in the camping of the NP. But... electric systems of the truck broke down, so we are stuck here.

So, to a local bar for a beer and wait for the truck ... Norm had great fun, Hugo felt a bit embarrassed...

Nienke found a nice hostel, and we will have to wait for the results of the repair before we know what to do next.

Keep you posted. For now.. episode and sleep. Laterz...

04/01

Rose at 7.30. Home made breakfast in the kitchen of the hostel, did the media extensively, left for the campsite at 11.00 on a very bumpy road.

Nice scenery again...

Arrived on our cold, windy and (every now and then) rainy campground around 3.00 PM.
Since i was the only truckpacker and i had quite a few things to do before i installed my own little tent. Wonder if it's going to hold out in these conditions. We'll see...

Gave away my 5 last beers, walked a bit around here (nothing to do, so wil go to the park probably (have to buy a $ 30,- ticket for just 1 day ... and then pay for activities as well (touristic ripp off again; getting so fed up with that))).
Now waiting for cookgroup. Early hikers haven't come back yet, so it will take a while longer... Laterz ...

Almost went back with the van of the hikers, but the guy wanted too much money for it. So i decided to stay and put my tent up again. It was a rainy night and my sleeping bag went wet. Oh well...

05/01

Rose at 6.45, breakfasted and packed for two hikes in the national parc. Entrance fee $ 35,- .

The hikes were fantastic though... really the best... here's the first one...

Then lunch in a nice hotel on a small island nearby ...

And then the second hike .... wind speed up to 140 km/h...

I was glad that yesterdays driver tried to rip me off. If he hadn't i would have gone back to town... and regret missing this so much...

Back at the campsite ... a cup of wine, nice food and a chat completed a great day. Slept early because ...

06/01

Rose at 4.00. Long drive ahead on the ruta Fin del Mundo.

First the 4 hour bumpy road back to Puerto Natalas to pick up the ones that had stayed behind. Did some shopping as well. Have shitloads of Chilean money left.

Then the long road to the end of the world. Nice stop at this ghoast village...

Then on the ferry to cross the Maghellaanse straat...

Even saw some Maggelane dolphins...

Pictures is from the net...

Now the last part to a wild camp. Laterz ...

We wildcamped and it was nice. Good food, nice conversations, laughter.

We are only 20 K away from the border. Estimated arrival in Uashuaia will be 2 PM or so. Now a long night of sleep. Hopefully whitout rain. If not I may drown ...

07/01

It didn't rain.  Slept like an idiot again. Rose at 6.00, breakfast. Crossed the border into Argentina again smoothly.
The scenery in Terra del Fuego (Fire land) is beautiful again ...

Now having lunch at a petrol station... see you in Ushuaia.

Rest of the route went smooth and we arrived at the border of town  (Ushuaia) around 2.45. It's a amazing thought ... 6.5 months ago we stood on arctic ice and now we are in the most southern town of the world ... some high fives and here we celebrate ...

Then... our hostelup here. Its a bit of a shit hole, but hey... we're travelers aren't we? Well a few of us anyway.
I took a stroll around town, changed my Chilean money into Argentinean (at an extremely good rate (i think the guy made a mistake)), played a little guitar at the hostel and then... look who came in ... Ken is back!

Getting some food now. Laterz...

The place is expensive. Very expensive, but ok... what can you do?
Had a nice little pizza, walked around a bit, back to the hostel. Delivered my laundry and showered. Siping a beer now and update my blog. Will sleep early. Laterz...

Not so early though ... jammd with another hostel guest. It became 11.30 ... slept great afterwards despite the face that everything squeaks here. It is not a great hostel.

08/01

Woke up at 7.00, but rose at 8.30. Did a whole day of strolling, but the only specialty in Ushuaia is it's location. And it's prices. So... will take some pictures tomorrow. And then ... it's up north again. After 6 months of continuously going south.

Had a nice steak in a local restaurant. Shopped for a last beer and a guitar jam here in the hostel. Episode of Torchwood to complete the day.

See you all next week.
